Ohio State 24, Iowa 9 — Play-by-Play
Yeah, this one started rough for the Buckeyes.
Iowa came out hot and grabbed the first three bouts, jumping out to a 9–0 lead and getting the Carver crowd feeling pretty good about themselves. That didn’t last.
157 – Voinovich (Iowa) over Shaw (OSU), 5–1
Nothing happened early, just hand-fighting and jockeying. Voinovich got out quick to start the second, hit a takedown, and that was basically it. Shaw got an escape late, but riding time sealed it.
165 – Caliendo (Iowa) over Birden (OSU), 8–2
Caliendo was in control right away. Took Birden down early, did it again before the period ended, and never really let things get interesting. Another riding time point at the end.
174 – Kennedy (Iowa) over Kharchla (OSU), 2–1
This one was a grind. Scoreless first. Kharchla escaped in the second, Kennedy answered in the third, and then Kennedy won it on riding time. Iowa up 9–0 and OSU needed something… fast.
184 – Fishback (OSU) over Arnold (Iowa), 4–1 SV
This is where everything flipped. Arnold got out in the second, Fishback answered in the third, and off to overtime we went. Arnold thought he won it — crowd went nuts — then boom, video review. Call overturned. Fishback gets the takedown. Absolute momentum changer.

In overtime, Dylan Fishback hit a peek-out that began a wild scramble with Gabe Arnold on top and initally awarded the takedown. After an officials’ review, the call was changed to a takedown for Fishback giving him a 4-1 victory. (photo by Bill Kogerman, CWN)
197 – Geog (OSU) over Sampson (Iowa), 13–4 MD
Geog wasted zero time. Took him down in the first 30 seconds and just kept coming. Takedowns, pressure, pace — major decision and suddenly it’s 9–7 and Ohio State’s alive.
HWT – Feldman (OSU) over Kueter (Iowa), 3–2
Big-boy battle. Tight the whole way. Feldman got a clutch escape late and then slammed the door. That win put OSU up 10–9, and from here on out it was Buckeye domination.
125 – Bouzakis (OSU) over Peterson (Iowa), 9–5
Bouzakis exploded early. Quick takedown, then a four-point nearfall and it was 7–0 before you could blink. Peterson fought back, but Bouzakis never let it get scary.
133 – Davino (OSU) over Ayala (Iowa), 4–2
Scoreless first, then Davino made his move in the second with an escape and a takedown. Ayala got out late, but Davino stayed solid and stayed undefeated.
141 – Mendez (OSU) over Petersen (Iowa), 21–3 TF
Joey Mendez, final home match, and he put on a show. Took Petersen down early and just kept pouring it on. Takedowns, nearfall, more takedowns — tech fall and the dual was officially over.
149 – Stiles (OSU) over Block (Iowa), 4–1 SV
Just for fun, they went to overtime again. Block led 1–0, Stiles tied it late, and then hit the winning takedown in sudden victory. Perfect way to end it.
